Stefan Kunz built his team in a 4-4-2 formation, while Cengiz Ünder pulled the strings in midfield. Luxembourg played more compactly, 4-5-1. The Turks had more possession from the start, as well as a first chance in the game thanks to Enes Ünal. The Getafe striker made a good run into the penalty area, but goalkeeper Maurice (2′) didn’t surprise.

A little later, as a result of an almost harmless situation, Turkey fell behind: Martins coolly took advantage of a communication problem between Turkish goalkeeper Çakir and defender Elmali and took the lead (8th place).

The goal gave Luxembourg self-confidence, but the joy was short-lived. Chanot fouled opponent Akturkoglu in the penalty area, while Cengiz Yunder converted a penalty (16 minutes). With the support of their public, the Turks created one scoring chance after another. But the Turkish strikers failed either the goalkeeper of Luxembourg Maurice, like Ünal (18th), or the blows of Dervisoglu (23rd), the last accuracy was not enough for Kökçu (26th).

Bad Turkish defense.

Then Turkey was coldly punished for usury of chances. Borges Sanchez intercepted the ball from Ayhan and gave a great serve to Sinani who scored and took the lead again (37′). But this time, the leadership did not last long. Chanot, who was in charge of the penalty and made it 1-1, scored an own goal after a virtually harmless cross from Cengiz Under (39′).

The second half began the same way as the first ended. The Turks had more possession but failed to put pressure on the Luxembourg defense. Luxembourg, on the other hand, continued to stab his opponents – and they continued to do so effectively: Gerson Rodríguez converted Bonert’s assist to make it 3-2 (69th). Shortly before this, Gerson had just cleared the line from Elmali (61 feet).

But even the third break should not be enough to win in the end. Yuksek, who had just come on as a substitute, struck the net from 25 meters to make it 3-3 (87 minutes). Just two minutes later, Yuksek nearly scored a brace (89 minutes). Turkey has just escaped embarrassment but can still be happy in the end: with this result, Turkey has been promoted to League B of the League of Nations. On Sunday (20:45) Kunz’s team will visit the Faroe Islands. Luxembourg accepts Lithuania at the same time.
